To become a CFRE:

Demonstrate your accomplishments through an application process which requires five years of paid, professional fundraising experience; on-going professional development in fundraising; successful performance as a fundraiser and community service.

Then, be successful on a comprehensive written examination which covers Prospect Identification and Research; Securing Gifts; Relationship Building; Volunteer Involvement; Management; and Accountability.

Once certified, individuals continue to demonstrate their fundraising proficiency through a recertification process every three years.
